I thought I was done with the waffle stamp blocks for the month. I needed to cut 1 1/2 inch squares for the easy breezy blocks I am making. While I was digging around, I found more short pieces and just thought I would sew a couple. Then, after making a few sets, I found shirt strips, and thought I would sew them together for future 4 or 9 patches. And finally, why not add a few more waffle stamp blocks.
It was a 1 1/2 inch kind of day.
I cut several sets of 1 1/2 inch strips for waffle stamp blocks in blue for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. But, I ran out of the pieced middles. I thought I had made some ahead. sigh...
I am guessing I only meant to cut more waffle stamp blocks this year for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. because, when I went to sew this month's color, I found several piles of pieces of other colors. I did finish green and red this month. I can get lost in making the strips for the 1 1/2 inch center blocks. And I can always dig up an odd piece of 1 1/2 inch that I can use. So, I just keep making them, and there is no stopping. There is always a partial piece ...

I still have waffle blocks in process. I had a bit of extra time at friday group and started putting 4 blocks of 2 together. It will definitely be a busy quilt. I began this quilt as part of the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. It is a great scrap buster using 1 1/2 inch pieces.

this past week I started working on an older ufo - on the go. It was a kit I bought in 2014 for a donation quilt. It is bright and colorful and easy. I added the outside borders this morning. It was raining or I would have a better picture. I have fabric for the binding, but, I will need to find a suitable backing in my stash. Then, it will live with the other quilts waiting to be quilted.
My radishes are ready for harvesting. I picked a mild radish, and, it is too hot for me. Good thing the ...

It is always a pleasure when the quilt is off the floor at the longarm. I am making progress on aunt eliza's star. It is a big quilt. I am doing swirls, nothing fancy.

waffle stamp blocks
I started working with my sea swept sashing blocks. I ran into an either or decision that has me paused. Either, I make the economy square with actual size pieces, and use up triangle pieces already cut, or, I cut new oversized pieces and trim down to the right size.
So, while I am waffling about that decision, I made more waffle stamp blocks. Pun intended.
Each block is a surprise when it is finished. I enjoy that. I have made a huge dent in the 1 1/2 inch strip and squares bins.

read moreI have been making the waffle stamp blocks this year as part of the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I cut for about 50 at the beginning and then used the color of the month to cut more. And to sew them together according to the color of the month. This month, I cut purple and that gave me 168 cut. I am sure that is enough. So, now I can add the finish of this quilt to my regular, any time, sewing.
Now that I have all the pieces cut for the waffle blocks, I am going to ...
read morePurple is the color for June at the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I really like purple. I grabbed the purple bag of 1 1/2 inch strips and cut for several waffle stamp blocks. I need a piece that is at least 17 inches to get 3 -5 1/2 rectangles. Then, the fun begins. I had enough center pieces made ahead for this batch of waffle stamp blocks. I still have a few purple sets that are not done, that I can make after I make some center strips of 1 1/2 inch squares or strips ...

I found a big bag of green scraps that I wanted to sort and decide. It was a nearly full 2 gallon ziplock bag. I spent 2 evenings folding and cutting. green is the color for March for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.
I overdid the yellow waffle stamp blocks , but, that gets me to a larger number already done for the whole quilt. These are very easy to do and a bit addictive.
One of the Ufos I wanted to do for yellow at rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy, was Bonnie Hunter blue skies from her book string fling. I made the string blocks during a string basket cleaning in 2016. I was string piecing anything in the book I might want to make while I was playing with strings. Last month, I assembled zucherwatte with pink. After reading that I ...
